WordPress to HubSpot Migration: Boosting Speed and Custom Functionality

The Challenge

The client, a B2B marketing technology (SaaS) company, needed to move their website from WordPress to HubSpot CMS without disrupting their existing content library of 20 pages and 200+ blog articles. Beyond the migration itself, their site was running on a paid WordPress theme that did not include several modules the business needed, and page speed performance was underperforming at a score of 50.

The requirement was not a simple lift-and-shift. It called for a rebuilt theme foundation, custom module development to close functionality gaps, a properly designed blog template rather than a generic one, and a meaningful jump in site performance post-migration.

Our Solution

  1. Content and Theme Audit

Reviewed the existing WordPress site structure, all 20 pages and 200+ blog articles, and the paid theme in use to identify functionality gaps that would need custom modules in HubSpot.

  2. Theme Setup and Custom Module DevelopmentSet up the paid theme inside HubSpot CMS and built the additional custom modules the business needed but the theme did not include out of the box.
  3. Blog Template Design and DevelopmentDesigned and developed a custom blog template from scratch, covering both the visual design and the HubL/HTML build, rather than relying on a generic default template.
  4. Bulk Content MigrationMigrated all 20 pages and 200+ blog articles into HubSpot CMS, preserving content, structure, and metadata across the move.
  5. Performance OptimisationOptimized the rebuilt site for speed, taking the page speed score from 50 up to 80+ through cleanup and configuration on the new HubSpot build.
  6. Post-Migration Site RevampFollowed the migration with a broader site revamp, refining design and layout now that the site was running on HubSpot's CMS.
  7. Ongoing Support and New Module DevelopmentContinued supporting the client after launch, currently building a new custom retailer module as part of the platform's ongoing development.

Key Deliverables

  • Full WordPress to HubSpot CMS migration - 20 website pages

  • Blog migration - 200+ articles

  • Paid HubSpot theme setup with custom module development for missing functionality

  • Custom blog template - design through development.

  • Page speed optimisation from a score of 50 to 80+.

  • Post-migration site revamp.

  • Ongoing platform support and new module development

Results

  • 20 pages and 200+ blog articles successfully migrated to HubSpot CMS.

  • Page speed score improved from 50 to 80+.
  • Theme functionality gaps closed with custom-built modules.
  • A dedicated, custom-built blog template replacing the generic default
  • Site revamped post-migration for a stronger overall design
  • Ongoing support relationship, including a new retailer module currently in development.

A theme purchase gets you most of the way there, but the modules a business actually needs rarely come out of the box - closing that gap is where the real build happens.
